Henrietta Anthony Patton was born near the Mississippi river in Hannibal, Missouri, shortly before Mark Twain penned his novel "Huckleberry Finn". She was named after her father's sister, Aunt Hennie. When she was only 6, her parents, David and Mary Patton moved the family to Moberly, Missouri in Randolph County. At 23 years old, she married Robert Earl Powers. They had 3 children. Their son, Robert Jr., was the only one to give them grandchildren. Daughter Betty Jean died in an automobile accident at the age of 16 and Dorothy didn't marry until after her 50th birthday.
David Williamson Patton was orphaned before his 5th birthday. He was raised by various family members. Once he became an adult, he left Pennsylvania and headed west. He worked for the railroad. In Hannibal, he met the daughter of German immigrants that had previously lived in Philadelphia. Her name was Mary Rosa Neth and they married in 1886. Great grandpa Patton was always inventing things. He was very kind and soft-spoken.
