Moberly, Missouri
My father's family hails from Randolph County, Missouri. Recently, I had the privilege of becoming reaquainted with my father's 1st cousin, William Skirvin. William and his own family had moved from the area years ago, and the men had lost contact. I started searching on the internet for William and his family. Lo and beold, they had moved back to Missouri. On a recent visit to Moberly, William and I had the chance to catch up.
My great-grandparents, David and Mary Patton, lived in this house from 1897 until they passed away.
When I was a small child - my summers were spent with my Grandmother Powers in Moberly visiting her brother and sister. Uncle Bill and Aunt Naomi lived in an upstairs apartment above an electrical supply store. Although they could afford much nicer acommodations, they had lived through the depression and pinched every penny. There was no air conditioning in the apartment and at night a truck would drive by to spray the millions of bugs that flew around the lightposts. I shudder to think about it now, but when I was a kid - it was a great place to spend your summer.
