Max & Judy's Most Wonderful Memorial Day - 2003
I met Maxine Kelly for the first time Memorial Weekend 2003. She is the daughter of my mother's double-cousin, Norval Pennington. Maxine was given up for adoption at birth but through perserverance, she found her family. Max (as we lovingly call her) and her husband Dennis stopped in Oklahoma City on their way home to Houston from Kansas. After getting acquainted a bit, we headed west out I-40 to Hydro - the home of several generations of our forefathers (& mothers). We drove by the houses where our Pennington and Ditmore ancestors had lived in town, then north about 2 miles to the Hydro Masonic Cemetery. I've been there many times, but today was extra special because I was able to share it with my new found cousin.
Judy & Max
We located the final resting places of all our relatives buried there. Max got to see her grandfather's grave (Fred Pennington) for the 1st time. The relatively small cemetery has got to be one of the most peaceful places on earth. It is surrounded by wheat fields that were just about ready for harvest when we were there.
