The Pennington Family
Pryor Pennington was born in Kentucky in 1824, to Royal and Elizabeth (Kerns) Pennington. The family migrated to Buchanan, Missouri. On May 29th, 1853, Pryor married Elizabeth McGuyer. It is not known whether or not they had any children together, but 7 years later, she died. He then married Barbara Ann Tetherow. Together they had 15 children. When the opportunity for free land opened up in Oklahoma, Pryor jumped on it. The family settled in Blaine County.
Virginia was the birthplace of Royal Ryley Pennington. Little is known about his upbringing. His mother's maiden name has not even yet been discovered. We know that "Millie" was not Robert Pennington's first wife and he was rather old when they married. But, she gave him 6 children, including Royal. Royal made his way to Missouri through Kentucky, where he married Elizabeth Kerns on November 28th, 1817. They eventually settled in Buchanan County. Shortly thereafter, Elizabeth died, in 1934. In 1837, Royal married Christina Rimell.
The name Ephraim Pennington has been passed down in my family since at least 1619. Each Ephraim has had his own Ephraim. Robert Pennington is the son of Ephraim V. Ephraim I was born in England and came to America sometime prior to 1645. At that time, the family resided in Connecticut and then New Jersey. Ephraim II was married to Mary, daughter of John Brockett. It was Ephraim IV that eventually headed south, to Salibury, North Carolina.
